An innovative partnership between Wellington and Orwell Housing has resulted in eight new affordable homes and three open-market homes being built in the Suffolk village of Laxfield.
Wellington identified the site and negotiated the purchase from a local family, and then brought forward proposals for the mixed tenure development which would see the affordable homes prioritised for local people, and the open-market homes helping to make the whole scheme financially viable.
The first phase was heavily weighted in favour of delivering the affordable homes, to ensure that local housing need took priority.
The partnership approach has resulted in affordable homes being built for local people which would otherwise not have been possible.
