Keys to the new base for oil and gas industry specialist SMS at Beacon Park were handed over exactly one year after the first sod was cut on the site – a remarkable achievement given the size and complexity of the task.
The 30,000 sq ft bespoke building, designed and built by Wellington, incorporates a number of specialist facilities, including two dedicated testing bays for pressure testing and operational testing, an area for ballistics, and modern observation zones for improved safety. The workshop is equipped with a built-in overhead crane.
The construction includes a number of environmental and sustainable energy features, including roof-mounted solar panels, LED lighting and permeable car parking.
The new base will allow SMS to continue to expand, offering more than twice the space of its former building on the Harfreys Industrial estate. It is expected to lead to the creation of at least 50 new engineering and manufacturing jobs in the region.
