Reydon Development Shortlisted For LABC Building Excellence Awards

A new development of 23 affordable homes in Suffolk, which is being constructed by Wellington for Orbit, has been shortlisted as a regional finalist in the Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development category in the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2020.

The Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Awards celebrate achievements in the construction industry. They reward excellent buildings, outstanding companies, as well as partnerships and individuals that go the extra mile.

The Bluebells development, located on Green Lane in Reydon close to Southwold on the Suffolk coats, is a collection of 23 two- and three-bedroom homes, or which 17 are for affordable rent and six shred ownership.  The site was developed in partnership East Suffolk Council, Reydon Parish Council and Wellington, and consists of 15 houses, four flats and four bungalows.

Ray Winney, Orbit’s construction director in the East said: “I am delighted that Orbit, in partnership with Wellington, have been shortlisted for this prestigious LABC Regional Award.  Since 2013, Orbit have built over 12,000 affordable new homes with our partners, ensuring each development meets quality, safety, environmental and design standards.

“As one of the UK’s largest providers of good quality affordable homes, this nomination reinforces Orbit’s commitment to building thriving communities where people are proud to live.”

Paul Pitcher, managing director at Wellington added: “It was a pleasure working with Orbit on this project and the development being shortlisted for the LABC Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development speaks volumes for the development and everyone involved from the inception through to the completed homes.”

All of Bluebells’ residences have been designed with energy-efficiency in mind, helping to reduce customer energy bills and lessen the environmental impact. The properties have a great specification, are attractively designed, thoroughly modern and built to an excellent standard.  The development also has an open green space for residents to enjoy as well as plenty of parking available.

The new homes have now been occupied, with priority being given to those who have a connection with Reydon village and adjoining parishes.

The LABC regional winner will be announced on Thursday 3rd September 2020.  For more information on the LABC Building Excellence Award 2020, visit: https://www.labc.co.uk/awards
